Daily writing prompt
If there were a biography about you, what would the title be?

Our life. I’ve often described our life as living a roller coaster. We have ups and downs. We have good times and bad. We’ve been blessed to meet some great and unique people, and We’ve had experiences I wish I could forget. The one thing that’s been constant is when we seem to hit a straight way we soon hit a hill or a turn.

Our married life. We’ve been married for more than 34 years. Like most people married a long time you’ve experienced times of great fun, times of arguments, and overcome. You’ve also learned in love to accept one another, quirks and all.

Our Educational life.Dan finished a Master’s of Divinity in 2012 to enhance his understanding of Bible and ministry. During this time Becky received an Associates Degree and ordination licensing. She has received training in various areas of the medical field with most of it in mental health. Dan has since completed a Master’s of Education and Master’s Certificate in English Writing. We both believe that teaching needs to connect to life, whether we are teaching, inspiring, or helping others understand deeper theological perspectives. Dan says of education, in ministry or in English, “It is my goal to help people become the best them they can be.” This means helping people to discover their own God given purpose and becoming the best they can be in that purpose.

Our Ministry life. We entered ministry in our mid twenties, and Dan went off to college graduating 27 years ago from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Religion and Philosophy degree. He was ordained as a Wesleyan Pastor in 2000. Becky always worked alongside and joined as an official ordained minister in 2011. We have believed all along that churches and individuals need a full and healthy perspective. Like a family has a father and mother it is beneficial for churches to have the fullness of a male a female perspective on life. We also see God establishing us to minister together, just as he created human couples to be helpmates in life together. The years have taught us even more the importance of ministering together. Even when one of us is speaking or share the other is praying and has given perspective to the messages shared.

We have ministered in bi-vocational ministry working other jobs and leading church ministry for 26 years in rural and small towns in the Midwest. We’ve always believed that God’s call was to help people grow in their walk with Christ, and in understanding God’s word better as they strive to live it out in their own lives. We’ve worked with families and individuals going through their own life experiences and bring these years into our current ministry.

Our Current Ministry Life: We’ve come out of some recent rough waters, and feel God’s call to inspire and encourage others in their own growth. Dan still feels the call to share God’s word and to educate people in understanding and following the depths of the treasure found inside. We’ve been healing, and will soon be launching this new ministry fully. Be watching for some of these things to come in the next few days and weeks:

  • Regular Devotions here on the site.
  • Updates on Speaking and Other Ministry work.
  • Word Through The Wilderness Podcast
  • In-Depth Bible Studies
  • Wrestling through tough areas of Faith & The Word

We look forward to celebrating and sharing our life and ministry with you in the days ahead.

Blessings on the journey,

Dan & Becky Shipton
