The name Emanuel means God with us. I often ponder why would Jesus want to be with us? I think of all the evil in our world and how Holy and separate God is from these things. Why would he want any part of us?
Paul gives an explaination in Philippians 2:6-7 “though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”
Jesus set aside all that he was in heaven in order to be born as one of us. It was the only way to redeem us from our sinful broken state. He had to be A perfect one of us in order to be the perfect sacrifice.
It all comes back to love. Paul wrote to the Romans ” while we we were yet siners Christ died for us. “
This Christmas remember God’s love brought Jesus out of the perfect Hollines of Heaven to live with us. He came to le the sacrifice and rebuild the broken relationship between God and humanity. This is the gift of Christmas.
